Growth has been on Mike Fairall’s mind the last few years. As a niche builder leading a small team of dedicated craftsmen, company growth has become just as important as building high-quality, energy-efficient homes. In 2014, Mokulua High Performance Builder acquired a five-employee masonry firm. Mike says the addition of the firm will further his goal to internally manage all parts of the building process. Mike also took on a few light commercial projects with clients that include Sea Life Park and Parker Ranch on the Big Island.
Mike has also seen a steady increase in the company’s workload. Mokulua High Performance Builder is building and certifying—LEED and Energy Star— six to eight new homes per year. In 2015, his team built two homes that achieved LEED version 4, the most current version of the U.S. Green Building Council’s sustainable home certification, and was also awarded the U.S. Green Building Council Outstanding Single-Family Home of the Year. —Kevin Whitton
