Some call it Kalaeloa. Others know it as John Rodgers Field.
There are even a few that recall its former military moniker, Naval Air Station Barbers Point. No matter what name you might know it as, this quiet little airport is one of the state’s best-kept secrets, especially among interisland commuters who fly locally owned and operated Mokulele Airlines.
Mokulele inaugurated regular passenger service from Kalaeloa Airport on July 1, 2014. Located in west O‘ahu, between ‘Ewa Beach, Kapolei and Campbell Industrial Park, Kalaeloa Airport welcomes inter-island travelers with an uncluttered, free parking lot. Once inside the terminal, passengers can fly through check-in—there are no TSA lines or metal detectors. Travelers simply check in at Mokulele’s ticket counter and board the plane. Depending on the destination, this can save hours of time, especially for west O‘ahu residents looking to avoid the drive to the Honolulu International Airport.
From Kalaeloa, Mokulele Airlines operates regularly scheduled flights to Hana, Kahului and Kapalua on Maui, Ho‘olehua and Kalaupapa on Moloka‘i, Kailua-Kona and Kamuela-Waimea on the Big Island, and charter service to Lana‘i.
