ODMIS moving company delivers expertise with aloha
Ben Eger doesn’t just have a knack for installing appliances—he’s a master at it. He’d been doing installs since age 15 back in Kassel, Germany, so naturally it made sense when his good friend called on him to handle that part of her kitchen and bath design business. In working with high-end movers to transport the appliances and cabinetry for installation, Eger imagined what he’d do differently if he were to run his own moving business.
With very few professional installers on O‘ahu, Eger saw an opportunity to build a team that combined residential and commercial moving, delivery and installation labor. Armed with an MBA from Hawai‘i Pacific University, he founded ODMIS, short for Ohana Delivery Moving and Installation Services, with the intention to create a full-service moving company that provides extraordinary customer service from trusted, certified appliance installation experts.
Eger had found his calling. “I enjoy what I do,” he says. “It doesn’t matter how many hours I am working. I’m driven by my vision.”
Now the ODMIS staff of six run the gamut of expertise, from moving services to appliance installation. They transport and install all types of appliances, including brands like Sub-Zero, Miele, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid and other high-end appliances—some weighing as much as 900 pounds and requiring extremely delicate handling.
Eger places great emphasis on leadership and teamwork. “My intention is to provide an exclusive service and develop a team you can count on,” he says. “Our core values drive us to be reliable, act professional and care about our customers, team, partners, associates and community.”
From actual installs to training and quality control, Eger is still very hands-on at ODMIS. His goal is to maintain steady growth, expand service to the neighbor islands and develop branches on the mainland within five to seven years. “I want to bring our spirit of aloha to as many people as possible,” he says. “I found my niche in Hawai‘i, and I feel blessed and lucky to have so many people who believe in our business.”
